David Trulli works primarily in scratchboard, using wood panels that are often quite large by traditional standards. A former cinematographer, Trulli blends that experience with his admiration of the master wood-engravers of the 1930’s to produce intricate narrative pieces. He has been profiled in the L.A. Times and his work has appeared on the cover of ArtScene magazine and in Juxtapoz magazine.  Trulli compares working in scratchboard to lighting a film set: “it starts out black and you add light.”

In his work David Trulli carves stories of urban life and illuminates the beauty, wonder, angst and terror of living in the modern world.

Trulli was born in Ossining, New York and came to Los Angeles in 1979.  He currently resides in Los Feliz, and has a studio in Hollywood.

David Trulli is represented by the Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica, California.
